Arizona Legislation

Minimum Wage Initiative Used as Wedge Issue

HCM 2012 Supports Federal Anti-Union Legislation

The Arizona legislature is considering legislation in support of the U.S. Senate’s deceptively named Freedom from Union Violence Act. House Concurrent Memorial 2012 encourages the reauthorization of the Hobbs Act. This reauthorizatoin, introduced by Senator Jeff Session (R- Ala.) would subject union members to hefty fines and up to 20 years imprisonment for engaging in traditional, non-threatening, and nonviolent strike activity. The U.S. Senate Bill will strip hard working Americans of their rights to collective bargaining and will unnecessarily and irreversibly alter federal labor laws. HCM 2012 is currently in the Arizona House Commerce Committee. The Arizona AFL-CIO vigorously opposes this legislation.

Arizona Legislative Update

Arizona's Legislature has started the session with proposals intended to weaken unions by draining dues money.
