Minimum Wage to Come Before Electorate Again in November

Nevada passed a wage increase with indexing in 2004. State law requires such initiatives to be approved a second time before going into law and, thus, Democrats will once again be able to use the issue to help turn out voters.

Incentives in SB 493 Would do Little to Support Nevada Film Industry Workers

Senate Bill 493 is intended to encourage motion picture production in Nevada. It was introduced on March 29 on behalf of Nevada Lieutenant Governor Lorraine Hunt. Ironically, the sales tax rebates and motor vehicle fee waivers the bill includes would do little to encourage productions to hire Nevada workers. Instead, a film could bring workers and equipment from out of state and still benefit from the incentives.

Health care bill passes Nevada legislative panel

A measure to fund health insurance policies for low-income pregnant women and employees of small Nevada companies has passed a legislative committee and has widespread bipartisan support, the bill's sponsor said.

A Senate panel Wednesday tacked on a pro-business amendment to a major property tax relief bill passed by the Nevada Assembly -- bogging down efforts to get the plan to the governor's desk.
