CA Leg Backs National Legislation to Combat Runaway Production

Assemblyman Herb Wesson has introduced a resolution to support negotiations at the federal level regarding tax credits. AJR 92 will urge the President and Congress to enact the U.S. Independent Film and Television Production Act of 2003.

The bill was originally scheduled to be heard on June 22 in Assembly Arts Committee but will now be held until after the summer break (July) because Wesson’s staff heard some concerns that it makes the two pending federal bills seem too California specific, and thus may undermine the current negotiations. The staff plans on including more data on the importance of the film industry to the U.S. as whole and not just to California.

This bill is not sponsored by any organization; it is being pushed by Wesson himself. To view the full bill text please visit: http://www.leginfo.ca.gov/pub/bill/asm/ab_0051-0100/ajr_92_bill_20040616_introduced.html
