Extension of Davis-Bacon Wage Protections AdoptedLegislation to extend Davis-Bacon wage protections under the Clean Water Act and Safe Drinking Water Act was recently adopted by the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works. The provision, written in by Nevada Senator Harry Reid, requires that those protections will apply not only to projects initially funded with revolving loan expenditures, but also to projects subsequently funded with new funds revolving into both programs. Since adoption in 1931, the Davis-Bacon Act has required contractors on federally-assisted construction programs to pay locally prevailing wages to their workers.
