Gov. Schwarzenegger Vetoes Labor Backed Bills
On the last day of the legislative calendar, California Gov. Arnold
Schwarzenegger vetoed a handful of labor-backed bills that would have
made life on the job - and off it - better for working men and women.
Among those bills that failed to become law:
-
AB 3018 - Proposed wage payment at regular pay period instead of within
24 hours of work completion in entertainment industry. This bill was
supported by labor and management in the hope that a current loophole
would be closed by making the collective bargaining process the standard
for how and when employees should be paid.
-
AB 3021 - Would have required businesses with over 250 employees
to report to the Employment Development Department (EDD) the number
of jobs
they have in California, other states and off shore.
-
SB 888 - Sought to mandate that any work relating to homeland security
be done in the United States
-
AB 1957 - Proposed measures to enhance the safety of importation
of Canadian prescription drugs.
In all, Gov. Schwarzenegger vetoed 32 pieces of legislation.
